Review: Graham Webb Heat Response Soft Finish Spray

grahamwebbheatresp.jpgWhat They Say: "The world of hair has become a dangerous place where damaging straightening irons, blow-dryers and other thermal tools have become a way of life. Fear no nore - Graham Webb's Heat Response Soft Finish Spray is a liberator in a spray bottle to help save your hair from those weapons of mass destruction. This solution not only protects 30% more from hot tools, but also gives hair electrifying shine and a soft smooth finish with long-lasting hold. Heat Response Soft Finish Spray is enriched with TRIPLE the amount of our patented Thermacore® Complex ingredient, which is found in all Graham Webb products, and turns hot tools into a beneficial conditioning treatment for hair. Here's how it works...

  • Thermacore® Complex is a remarkable blend of three conditioning and moisturizing ingredients that become active with the application of heat over 98° from hot water, blow dryers and styling tools.
    • Panthenol - vitamin B5 derivative with tremendous moisturizing properties to help repair, thicken and strengthen damaged hair
    • Allantoin - Well known for its moisture content, water-binding capabilities and ability to to maintain softness
    • Myristyl Alcohol - Conditioning emollient derived from coconut, which served as the binding vehicle for the entire complex

  • Once heated, the crystal breaks down into molecular particles small enough to penetrate the hair shaft working to repair and restore even the most damaged hair.

To Use: Shake well, distribute throughout damp hair and blow dry. If using with straightening or curling irons, most lightly on sections of dry hair immediately before wrapping or pressing.

Melissa Says: As with many Graham Webb products that I've been fortunate enough to test out, this is another that I'm going to keep in regular rotation. The formula separates into to layers when it sits, so it is important to remember to shake it well before applying.

Mostly, what I love about this product is that softens the coarse ends of my hair and adds shine overall. They describe an "electrifying shine", and while I don't know if I'd go to that extreme, I definitely saw a noticeable difference when using this before blowdrying or curling. I don't feel ANY residue or notice any added weight, so I believe this could even work well on thin or fine hair without creating a buildup that weighs it down.

I wouldn't say that this made my hair take to curl more or straighten differently, but the look does stay for hours and the result is very manageable and soft. When blowdrying, my hair stayed smooth with little to no frizz. I curl with a very large curing iron and liked the results, but I do somehow feel that if you want tighter curls the soft results just might loosen the resulting curl a bit, so that's something to keep in mind. Don't confuse this for a hairspray as you know them. This is a whole new breed of styling spray.

Review: Graham Webb Brit Style Whipped Wax

britstylewhipped.jpg What They Say: "From the edge of New York Fashion Week to the daily commute on the subway, Graham Webb’s Brit Style Whipped Wax will take you there and everywhere in between. Cropped haircuts are flooding salons with a vengeance – this gender-neutral product contains Beeswax and Palm to sculpt and style these looks with a soft, smooth, and airy hold. You’ll have all the benefits of a wax; however it’s in a crème format so it is lightweight and easily distributed through hair.

Mix a little of the Whipped Wax with mousse or other styling products for instant added softness, smoothness, and control. If you’re in a hurry and your hair is still wet, bring it with you and apply once you get to work. The crème format glides on evenly without leaving hands greasy or gooey. All Graham Webb products contain Thermacore Complex, a patented key ingredient that is activated upon the application of heat over 98 degrees, penetrating strength and moisture down into the hair shaft so that blow dryers and styling tools actually make hair healthier!"

Jamie’s Thoughts: I’m thankful for the very complete product description above, as it makes it easy for me to spend my portion of this review emphasizing to you how much I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. Yes, I’m breaking out the all caps for this one. It does all that it says above, and more. Allow me to explain. Last fall, I chopped 11 inches off of my hair and donated it to charity. I needed a haircut anyhow, and when my stylist suggested it, I thought, “Why not? It will grow back.” I did not, however, prepare myself for that period of re-growth. Suddenly, I was left with extremely short, curly hair and absolutely no idea how to style it. Enter Brit Style Whipped Wax…

This product has single handedly saved my awkward, now-3-months-grown-out hairstyle, and has kept me from looking like a backup dancer for Herman & The Hermits. I have put this wax through a litany of tests – it has passed every one, including the unexpected heat wave here in Chicago when the humidity jumped to about 70%. In the morning, I take a full dose (which is about the size of a quarter), emulsify it, and run it through my towel-dried hair – by the time I get to the office, it’s partially dry and totally in control. On the days I didn’t use it in the morning, I ended up needing it to combat midday frizz – another success. I also love it when straightening – it stands up to both my ceramic hairdryer and my ceramic flat iron, leaving my hair shiny, bouncy, and soft. If you have short hair, go out and buy this product as soon as you can. I also suggest it for curly girls, and am confident that it would also work on longer hair. And it smells good!

I will continue to use this product until it is discontinued, or until they have to pry it from my cold, dead hands. It’s THAT good. Now all I have to do is hope that my current supply lasts until they release the product to market in May.

Review: Graham Webb Making Waves Curl Defining Gel

What They Say: "This alcohol-free, curl defining gel, formulated with Thermacore Complex, a US patented ingredient, revitalizes naturally curly or permed hair as it creates flexible texture and definition with soft control, natural movement, and added shine.

How to use: Work throughout towel-dried hair and style as desired. For added definition or special effects, apply after drying and mold hair into desired shape."

Toya's Take: After washing and conditioning my hair as usual, I towel-dried my hair and applied a bit to my hair, making sure that I applied the product to each section. The first thing I noticed was the scent. It's kind of light and sweet - it actually smelled like something you would use as a bath or shower gel. I really liked the texture - it didn't feel sticky to the touch at all. I let my hair air dry. After drying, my curls were nicely defined and even shiny, with minimal crunchiness and not stickiness at all. I'm able to run my hands through my hair without getting any product residue on my fingers. I like it a lot - I think I'll add this to my regular product rotation.

Review: Graham Webb Silk Repair Leave-In Conditioner

silk-repair.jpgWhat They Say: "If you can't tell her age by a glance at her face, why should the condition of her hair give it away? Proper care for tresses should be as important as skin care, especially with the deteriorating effects of coloring, chemical processing and heat styling. Restore locks back to original condition in one step with easy-to-use Graham Webb Silk Repair Leave in Conditioner, which protects locks for years to come while leaving it soft and supple. Silk Repair Leave in Conditioner contains our exclusive Thermacore Complex, an anti-aging regimen containing essential elements such as hydrolized silk, natural humectants and emollients for manageability and rebuilding of hair follicle by using heat as a conditioning treatment.

Hydrolyzed Silk is unique in that it acts like a typcical protein to strengthen the hair, but is also a natural humectant - capable of attracting and binding 10,000 times its own weight in moisture within the hair shaft. Thermacore Complex, found in all Graham Webb products, becomes activewith the application of heat over 98 degrees - from hot water, blow dryers and styling tools - to act a sa beneficial conditioning treatment, repairing and protecting the hair frmo the inside out. Another bonus? This daily leave-in conditioner and reconstructor seals in moisture, replacing the need for a rinse-out conditioner while comgining the conditioning effects of natural humectants and emmolients to eliminate tangles and static for easy mangageability."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: That's a lot of information, but as far as I'm concerned here's all you need to know. This stuff will add softness and a bit of shine but NO weight. I was thinking of all the leave-ins I tried when I was younger and they always had a greasy residue. Not so here. (Don't confuse this with the feeling of a deep conditioner either.) I have the same amount of body, more manageability and softness, and I find myself running my fingers through my hair more because it's SO easy to do, and feels so healthy.

Review: Graham Webb Brit Style High Gloss Spray

highgloss.jpgWhat They Say: "Give your hair the spotlight all day and night with healthy long-lasting hold and shine. Graham Webb's Brit Style High Gloss Spray is a versatile product tahat can be used as a styling or finishing product to add durability and incredible polish. The spray also containes our exclusinve Thermacore Complex®, a patented, heat-activated conditioning agent that reverses the damaging effects of hot tool usage by turning on hot water, blow dryers and styling tools into a beneficial conditioning treatment.

'Shiny hair is instantly seen as heatlhy hair, and you'll achieve both polis and down-to-dusk hold with the High Gloss Spray,' says Jarrod Harms, senior manager of education and training, Graham Webb International. 'Plus, the medium to firm hold is perfect for any hair type ranging from fine to coarse and heavy. That means anyone can take their hair to the extreme with hot rollers or flat irons and come out with luxe locks that don't reflect the recent tool torture.'

Styling Tips: Mist High Gloss Spray into damp hair and blow dry for a completely touchable style with long hold. For a finished look, lightly spray onto hair before using a flat iron, curling iron, or even hot rollers for extra support and protection."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: My first impression after I used this and blowdried was "It almost looks like I got highlights!" There was definite shine, and it looked great. And using it before applying the straightening iron made me equally happy. I would say the only thing to keep in mind is that it can feel a bit tacky after sprayed, which will go away when you blowdry, but remember that you don't need a LOT to go a long way. Be conservative and work from there. Otherwise you could end up with slightly weighed-down locks. If used correctly though, you can get fabulous shine results from this product.

Review: Graham Webb Brit Style Wax Pomade

britwaxpomade.jpgWhat They Say: "This unique wax pomade provides touchable hold while delivering soft control and second-day texture."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: With my hair's tendency to have unruly ends even after a blowout or straightening, I usually need some sort of product to get that final finished look. Also, though my hair is mostly fine I have a LOT of it, so it also can look a little "big" after blowdrying without the right styling. This light pomade works to fix these things for me. It's not sticky and doesn't weigh the hair down while smoothing texture and even adding a bit of shine. It gets those flyaways under control and does indeed give your hair that bit of subtle pliability that you often have to wait a day or two for after washing to get.

User Tip: Obviously, you could always add too much of this and get weighed-down results (but that would take a lot of product), so be careful to concentrate on below mid-to-end areas of the hair first, and also just do the very ends of bangs avoiding the hair underneath that will directly touch your forehead if you have a tendency to get product-related zits (I do). Also, if you have extremely long hair with little to no layering, I'm not sure this would be as beneficial to you as it would to those with midlength-to-short hair with some layers or texturing. I can also see this as being a fablulous hair product for MEN.

Review: Brit Style Styling Paste by Graham Webb

BRIT_paste.jpgWhat They Say: "There’s no better feeling than sun on your face and wind in your hair. Now you can ride with the top down minus the stress of mussing up your hairstyle. Graham Webb’s Brit Style Styling Paste is a unique product that allows your hair to reshape to its original look - even after cruising down the highway! Styling Paste contains an Advanced Pliable Resin System that styles and re-styles easily and lets you worry more about getting to the beach than getting to the mirror. “The best thing about Styling Paste is that it has incredible hold and shine, but doesn’t leave hair feeling greasy or stiff like a gel or a wax would. You don’t have to re-apply any product to get your original look, so hair stays touchable all day,” says Jarrod Harms, senior manager of education and training at Graham Webb International. "It also contains avocado oil that not only strengthens hair, but works as a natural sunscreen to protect hair from harmful summer rays."

Use a dab in damp, long hair before blow-drying for separation, shine, and hold. A simple raking of a brush or fingers gets hair back in control after a wild ride. If you want a beachy look, emulsify a dab between palms before scrunching into dry hair. You’ll get all the tousled texture any Betty should have. For short styles, go for a highly textured look by using just a little more. Use on either dry or damp hair."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: This scared me at first, because when you put it on your fingers it's incredibly thick and sticky-feeling. Almost glue-like. And you can't help but think to yourself, "...this is going to not create buildup on my hair HOW exactly?" Yet somehow, magically, it doesn't. I mean, it feels like you're really putting something heavy in your hair at first, but when you blowdry it's amazing how soft and pliable yet not "gunked up" your hair feels. It really is a nice way to maintain the look you want without crazy flyaways. I recently got a shorter, choppier haircut, and I like to add this to my hair on the ends after it's dry to add more texture, separation, and definition without adding tackiness. The key to adding it when your hair is dry is to go in TINY amounts at a time, because it can go a long way.

Overall, I was truly surprised by this product - in all the good ways.

Graham Webb Brit Style Energy Lock Hair Spray

What They Say: "This fast-drying, maximum-hold hair spray is formulated to provide ultimate hold and styling power for all hair types."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: I'm not a regular user of hair spray, but I do like to have a nice-holding one handy for those times when I'm doing a half-updo or need to get a handle on short flyaways. This bottle is REALLY tall, so if you aren't one to give yourself a helmut-head every day, it should last you a really long time. It does live up to its claim of super hold (if you're looking for flexible hold, Graham Webb try Graham Webb Brit Style Flexible Hold Hair Spray), but if you spray a little too much in one spot, it's a little painful to brush out. So hold the bottle about an arm's length away when you spray.

Graham Webb Thick Infusion Root Volumizing Spray

Graham-Webb-19775.jpgWhat They Say: "Inflate hair with maximum body for styles that look and feel thick and full. All Thick Infusion products contain special proteins, which blended with Thermacore® Complex, add body and fullness while restoring elasticity and strength."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: This spray has much more to offer than its fresh fruity scent. I've used it on my hair dry AND wet, and have loved the results either way. For wet hair, you can spray this on roots, but also throughout your hair, to create moveable body when blow dried. Personally, I tend to use it more for when my hair is already dried. I like to spray lightly at the roots, then bend upside down and tousle my hair for a few seconds. The result? A definite increase in thickness and body, and no added weight.

Sometimes I like the sleek, straight look. But when I want to have a half-updo with some height or create some casual fullness for a slightly mussed look, I would definitely reach for this product. Don't tell...but I've gotten an extra day of not washing my hair here and there using this already!

There is one thing to consider though, and that is that when used on dry hair (at least that's where I've noticed it), it does leave a slightly hard-to-comb-through dryness where most heavily applied. This could be partly because of the tousling and/or teasing you do when using it. But I still consider this a fabulous find!
